Chemical Weapons Inspectors in Syria Receive Ten Armored Vehicles

The U.S. have provided the United Nations with 10 armored vehicles to further assist their efforts in eradicating Syria’s chemical weaponry. Shipped recently, the United States spent $1.55 million obtained from the State Department’s Nonproliferation and Disarmament Fund to purchase the vehicles. The State Department noted that the Royal Canadian Air Force provided air transport in getting the vehicles to the Middle East from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. To date, the U.S have provided close to $6 million in financial assistance to help free Syria of chemical weapons. Recent explosions nearby a Damascus hotel where inspectors with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons were staying brings credence to the need for protection.
